"Artists Roland Reiss, Dawn Arrowsmith and Jeanine Breaker enjoy their morning coffee on the roof deck of Reiss/Arrowsmith's loft at The Brewery, with several Downtown high-rises as their backdrop. Billed as the largest live-and-work artists' colony in the world, the Brewery Art Colony in downtown Los Angeles, is a 23-acre area comprised of about 300 studios; the former Eastside and Pabst Blue Ribbon Breweries, from which the community derives its name; and one of Los Angeles' first power plants, Edison Power Station #3. The leased apartment lofts of The Brewery range in size from 1,200 square feet to 6,000 square feet. Monthly rents are about $1 to $1.25 per square foot, depending on the size of the unit, and leases are for a minimum of one year. Approximately 400-500 artists reside here.
